I see ads on Oppo all the time.

For BaT, CL, old toyotas, ceiling-based home decorations, all the best Huey Lewis and the News albums, and some really top notch chicken parm.

I expect those terrible taboola ads featuring poor photoshops of women with comically large knockers to join the mix soon though.

The idea is that most of traffic to and from Oppo go to to a main site, like jalopnic, so it’s a loss leader sort of scenario. However, with new management, even if that is the case they might not care. Deadspin non-sport stories outdid their sports stories traffic-wise, and they didn’t give a shit about that data either. If ads keep the lights on here, j got zero problem

I thought Jalopnik wanted nothing to do with Oppositelock anymore?

Something about Oppo’s pretending to write for Jalopnik and getting presscars, access to events, etc.

Yeah, there were two things as I understand. They wanted to incorporate blogs like Oppo and observation deck (io9 equivalent). Then some people here started asking for press cars, and there was a huge plagiarism issue at io9. It was a liability.

But, they still want traffic to the main page from here, and we still run on their servers.

In defense, if your review/video makes the “Popular on Oppositelock” sidebar for a day, particularly the top #1, it can be a healthyyyyy view count that any OEM would probably gladly give you a press vehicle or at least access to an event for .

Source - I have had videos hit the sidebar before.

Weirdest thing I can’t figure out with on Oppo is, my stuff that in my opinion is really good and really popular elsewhere never makes the sidebar, but my odd things do.

That is probably what keeps me here, such a unique community with likes/dislikes you cannot find anywhere else.
